They are the reason to check out Stockholm, a true crime 90-minute hostage flick that is the kind of film with the balls to proudly wear its direct double-meaning title non-ironically. This speedy caper yarn is all the more intriguing for its infamous subject matter but it unfortunately doesn't do much to probe it and mine it for all its worth.
But it's a funny and agile one. Based on the absurd but true 1973 bank heist and hostage crisis in Stockholm that was documented in the New Yorker as the origins of the 'Stockholm Syndrome'. Stockholm, which gently massages actual events to serve as a fine vehicle for Noomi Rapace and Ethan Hawke, is far from the first movie to believably show a crime victim coming to sympathize with a criminal. But it's a funny and agile one.
